Face Cleansing

Washing your face should be easy right? Right! It just needs to be done properly.

Again, skin types play an important role in what products you use, as well as the frequency with which you wash your face. Please see our page on Skin Types so that you have an idea of your type.

Follow these steps and you can’t go wrong;

Prepare for wash: Have a cleanser that exfoliates and a clean towel ready. Splash your face with warm water and get it really moist.

Wash: Take your cleanser and apply as directed. With all skin types, remember to be careful! Rough treatment from intense scrubbing and pumice-based exfoliates should be avoided. One of the biggest dangers for dry skin is over washing. One you have sufficiently cleaned your face, rinse thoroughly with warm (not hot) water, and rinse again.

Dry: Pat your skin dry using a scrupulously clean towel—it’s amazing what kind of nasty bacteria lurks in damp places. DO NOT RUB your face with the towel as this can irritate your skin.

Post Wash: Moisturizing your face immediately after washing and drying is important to the overall health of your skin. Dry skin is subject to flaking and tightness without a careful moisturizing regimen.

Now would be a good opportunity to use a simple toner, too, to close pores. Toners can be used if you like the skin freshening properties they offer. Rosewater and witch hazel can be found at any druggist and will hydrate and protect your skin. Avoid overly astringent products, such as those with alcohol. If you use drying products, your face may produce more oil to compensate. Don’t strip your face of its natural defenses. If toners are too harsh, spritz! There are plenty of man-friendly facial spritzers in inconspicuous travel sizes

Open your mind to the idea of using natural products. Your skin, and your partner will thank you for it.
