Colouring

We men dye our hair for many different reasons. Some of us want to conceal the strands of gray belying our age, and some of us want a radical new look to spice up our personal style. Well what ever your reasons, make sure you follow some of the basic guidelines below.

There are three major kinds of color or dyeing products you can use to color your hair.

Semi-permanent Color
This will add color to your hair without drastically changing its natural color. Semi-permanent products are generally used by men with 50% gray hair, or those who want to slightly enhance their natural color. The effects of semi-permanent products generally last 2-3 weeks depending on how often you shampoo.

Demi-permanent Color
Demi-permanent products have a color enhancement factor, which is a little more visible than that of semi-permanent products. The color should last around 6-8 weeks, for those with a regular shampoo regimen. They are generally used to blend and cover up high percentages of gray hair.

Permanent Color
Permanent colors arent as mush as there very long lasting. Men seeking a significant change in hair color should use these. They usually involve multiple steps applied over a few weeks to be properly applied, but their effects are so long lasting the only way to reverse them is to usually cut your hair and have it grow back. Defnietly consult a professional colorist before using permanent color products. Of course if you do decide to apply permanent color to your hair, you’ll need to apply coloring agent to the roots of your hair every 4-6 weeks.

Regardless of what coloring product your choose you should follow the following maintenance tips.

  • Use a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for color-treated hair.
  • To avoid your hair color from fading in the sun, make sure to wear a hat or appropriate sunscreen (i.e. hair products that contain UV protection) when exposed.
  • Dampen your hair with spring water before getting into pool water treated with chlorine. This will help dilute the chlorine which tends to damage the coloring agent.
  • Use a wide-toothed comb and dab your hair dry with a towel, instead of drying it roughly with a towel.
